I find it interesting that as the PC was invented it was no more than text and code, nothing to be excited about, nothing anyone was racing out to the stores to get if they didn't already need a typewriter.
As the industries of production were focused on Autos and other machinery i find it interesting that at the introduction of the internet and digital technologies, the course of mass production started focusing on technologies that are portals for what you want, (PC as portal for internet, i-phone as portal for communications and internet) Whereas earlier industry was in the physical world for physical activities. (Cars for moving)
As the internet was first developed it was no more than a digital telegraph, code and text only.
It is important when accepting new possibilities in new technologies to understand that small advances are sometimes very significant ones.
